OUR TEAM

Meet Our Volunteers

Meet the people who give their time, experience, and energy to support Chances for Children and help create lasting opportunities for children in Uganda.

President and Co-Founder

Gabrielle Achilleos

Gabrielle has led Chances for Children since 2014 and oversees the charity’s overall direction, international team and day-to-day operations.

She works closely with Martin Male and the team in Uganda, coordinating priorities, following up on projects and supporting decisions relating to the children’s care, education and future opportunities. Her role also includes fundraising, sponsor relationships, communications, financial oversight and long-term planning.

Gabrielle is committed to transparency and accountability. She believes supporters should understand how funds are used, what progress is being made and where challenges remain.

Having watched many of the children grow into young adults, she is especially proud to see them progress into university, vocational training, apprenticeships and employment.

For Gabrielle, Chances for Children is about more than meeting immediate needs. It is about creating stability, opportunity and the confidence for every young person to build an independent future.

Co-Founder & Vice President

Russell Sean Crump

Russell Sean Crump co-founded the charity alongside Gabrielle and Martin Male, united by a shared commitment to creating an organisation capable of delivering meaningful and lasting change. During the charity’s formative years, Russell personally funded its establishment, providing the financial support necessary to transform a shared vision into a functioning organisation.

As the charity has grown and matured, Russell’s role has evolved to focus on strategic leadership in his capacity as Vice President. His principal emphasis is on maintaining a long-term perspective, ensuring that the charity develops in a sustainable and responsible manner while remaining true to its founding objectives.

Drawing upon decades of international business experience, Russell contributes strategic insight, governance expertise and a broad commercial perspective to the organisation’s future development. He is particularly committed to building projects that create enduring value and strengthen the charity’s long-term resilience.

A principle that underpins Russell’s involvement is an unwavering commitment to absolute transparency at every level and at all times. He believes that integrity, openness and accountability are fundamental to earning and maintaining the confidence of beneficiaries, supporters, donors and the wider community. These values remain central to the charity’s governance and future direction.

Russell continues to work closely with the charity’s leadership, helping to shape its strategic vision and ensuring that its growth is guided by sustainability, sound governance and the highest ethical standards.

Founder & Executive Director

Martin Male

Martin Male is the Founder and Executive Director of Chances for Children Foundation in Uganda. He began the organisation by serving meals to orphaned and vulnerable children living on the streets and in the slums of Kampala, believing that every child deserves love, dignity and the opportunity to thrive.

What started as a small act of compassion has grown into a life-changing organisation. Together with President and Co-Founder Gabrielle Achilleos, Co-Founder Russell, and the wider board, Martin has helped build Chances for Children into an international family dedicated to providing shelter, education, healthcare and brighter futures for vulnerable children.

One of Martin’s greatest joys has been watching many of the children grow into confident young adults, progressing into higher education, vocational training and meaningful employment. Today, the vision is shared by an incredible team of supporters, volunteers and board members who continue working together to give every child the opportunity to build a safe, independent and hopeful future.

Social Worker

Martha Eve

Martha Eve has been part of the Chances for Children family for many years and has walked alongside many of the children as they have grown from childhood into confident young adults. As the organisation’s Social Worker, she provides compassionate guidance, emotional support and practical care, helping each child navigate the challenges of their past while building hope for the future.

She works closely with the children and young people to understand their individual needs, with a particular focus on trauma, emotional wellbeing and mental health. Through her patience, kindness and unwavering commitment, Martha has become a trusted mentor and mother figure to many.

Martha believes that healing is just as important as education, and she is passionate about helping every child feel safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Senior Caregiver

Mummy Jane

Mummy Jane is the heart of the Chances for Children family. As our Senior Caregiver, she has lovingly cared for many of the children from the time they first arrived, providing the warmth, guidance and reassurance that every child deserves.

She plays a special role in mentoring the girls and helping all the children grow into respectful, kind and responsible young people. Mummy Jane teaches the importance of good manners, personal hygiene, gratitude and respect for others, bringing the wisdom and gentle guidance of a mother and grandmother into everyday family life.

Over the years, she has helped raise countless children, caring for babies and young children with extraordinary devotion. Many of them were carried on her back, comforted in her arms and lovingly tucked into bed. To the children, she is far more than a caregiver—she is “Mummy,” a constant source of love, security and belonging.

Programs Director

Davis Edgar Ssenoga

Davis Edgar Ssenoga serves as the Programs Director at Chances for Children Foundation, where he oversees activities that keep children engaged, learning and growing in a safe and positive environment. As a professional music teacher, he is passionate about using creativity to inspire confidence, discipline and hope.

In 2017, Martin Male launched a performing arts programme to help the children develop new skills while healing from difficult past experiences. Davis was entrusted with leading the initiative, connecting the children with talented volunteer teachers in music, dance and the performing arts.
What began as a small programme has grown into a professional performing group , an internationally recognised cultural group that has performed on major stages and created life-changing opportunities for many young people. Davis remains committed to using the arts to transform lives, believing that every opportunity the group receives brings them one step closer to a sustainable future for Chances for Children and the children it serves.

Further Education and Careers Guidance

Anna Mariani

Anna brings a wealth of life experience, warmth and compassion to her role with Chances for Children. She supports young people as they approach the end of school, helping them explore their interests and think through their options for further education, training and work. Anna takes the time to listen to each young person and encourages them to find a path that feels right for them as they prepare to fly the nest and embrace the first chapter of their young adult lives.

VOLUNTEER

Joanne Deens

Joanna Deen lives in Monaco and volunteers with Chance for Children, helping to raise essential funds to support vulnerable children and young people. She is actively involved in organising fundraising events that provide resources and opportunities to assist children in their everyday lives, helping them to thrive, reach their potential, and build a brighter future.

Director of Medical and Dental Fundraising

Dr Sonia Sangha

Sonia is the Director of Medical and Dental Fundraising for Chances for Children.

Her involvement with C4C began informally, supporting President Gabrielle Achilleos and founder Martin Male by helping to interpret medical reports and offering guidance on potential interventions for children experiencing health problems. This sparked a desire to take on a more formal role in supporting the health and wellbeing of the children.

Since joining the board in 2024, Sonia has secured funding to establish a dental clinic in Kampala, with the aim of creating a sustainable model for providing dental care. The vision is to inspire dentists and dental nurses from around the world to volunteer at the clinic, providing free treatments and check-ups for the children — care which has previously been very costly to access.

If the model proves successful, Sonia hopes to develop a similar initiative in the coming years to support the diagnosis, management and treatment of wider physical health problems.

Sonia has also recently committed to sponsoring the education of one of the C4C children whose dream is to pursue a career in paediatrics.

Professionally, Sonia has worked as a Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist for the past decade and currently works on a Mother and Baby Unit in the Midlands, UK. She studied medicine at Imperial College London, graduating in 2007 with a BSc and MBBS. She later attained her MRCPsych while specialising in General Adult Psychiatry and also holds a Master’s degree in Psychotherapeutic Approaches in Mental Health.
